Changing Consumption Habits

Consumer consciousness is already moving demand towards greener products, but “green” alone won’t cut it. Transforming responsible production and consumption from niche to norm requires the development of products that can stand alone to satisfy both stakeholders and market demand. It is imperative that the customer base is inclusive of those to whom sustainability is an afterthought. This is how we create change.

In Pursuit of Excellence

In order to stay competitive, we are constantly striving for excellence. This has meant significant investments into research and innovation to enhance product quality, functionality, performance, and diversity, all while driving down environmental footprint. Leveraging our vertically integrated supply chain and working in collaboration with our partners, we focus on sourcing the best materials and equipment, as well as improving our processes, to provide sustainable choices in the market.

Raw Materials Raw Materials

For the manufacturing industry, the world’s limited resources combined with rapidly growing demand has led to a conundrum that cannot be solved without finding a means of making raw material sources sustainable. Esquel maintains a steady supply of high-quality, ethically sourced materials to produce high-quality products. We cultivate a strategic focus on natural fibers that are highly absorbent, durable and eco-friendly without chemical aid, and never stop innovating technologies to handle them in ways that reduce our impact on the environment without compromising quality.

The R&D we dedicated to pioneer cotton genome sequencing for Sea Island Cotton maximizes our yield of high-quality cotton for better use of resources. We have also been developing luxurious yak down blends that benefit the community of yak herders without risking desertification of grazing lands. To address risks from seasonal market fluctuations, we maintain long-term relationships with Pima cotton growers in other countries and consider the impacts of our sourcing choices over the long-run for future generations.

Processes Processes

The challenge faced by manufacturing is to discover redesigns that boost efficiency, productivity and quality, while responsibly managing resources and assets. In this, Esquel aims to be a front-runner in the industry. We constantly upgrade our manufacturing processes with a people-plus-technology approach, pairing quality and productivity with the needs of Esquelers and the environment. For example, our people development initiatives introduce automation and digitalization projects that empower Esquelers to pursue knowledge-based work, which relieves them from labor-intensive and physical strain.
Our pursuit of excellence also drives us to closely engage our stakeholders, from clients and governments to research institutions and NGOs. As of 2020, we hold 1,620 patents. We are constantly looking to innovate new working processes and supply chain management methods for improved social and environmental performance. Guided by our quality growth strategy, we optimize asset utilization and long-term capacity planning with customers to ensure timely delivery and better cost management.

Final Goods Final Goods

To keep pace with rapidly changing market needs and external factors, we focus on fostering agility in our product development and widening our product diversity. Through clients and our own retail brands, we offer final goods that are a culmination of complementary initiatives that demonstrate Esquel’s commitment to the planet and its people. Utilizing the advantages of our vertically integrated setup and generations of R&D, we aim to deliver products that bring value to us as a business, but also give our customers and end-consumers social value

By the day, we are seeing advancements in Esquel’s capacity and ability to provide more versatility in sustainable options for customers – not just for apparel, but also home textiles, reusable masks and accessories. Packaging has not escaped our scrutiny; we use recycled materials to create garment tags and upcycle fabric waste into bags and labels, and we are in the midst of exploring recycled and biodegradable plastics. The final good should only claim itself a sustainable good when it throughougly undergoes the sustainability practice.
